Hyottoko
An industrial translation of Japanese festival iconography. The Hyottoko—a traditional symbol of fortune and theatrical humor—is materialized into a rigid, physical artifact. This piece captures the character’s asymmetrical expression through precision digital fabrication, presenting folklore as a tangible sculptural object.
STRUCTURAL AESTHETIC The mask’s defining features—the puckered geometry of the mouth, the deep facial creases, and the draped texture of the headscarf—are rendered with high-fidelity accuracy. It strips the subject of its performative impermanence, locking the expression into a static, monolithic medium.
SPATIAL INTEGRATION Engineered for versatile environmental display. The artifact functions as a standalone desktop sculpture or can be securely wall-mounted to intersect with vertical spatial planes, transforming traditional masks into architectural focal points.
